SFGate reports:
Los Angeles -- A man using his young daughter as a shield fired more than 40 rounds before he was cut down by police officers in an incident in which the child also died, police said Monday.
this cannot be simply pinned on the cops.
The child's mother, Lorena Lopez, said she pleaded with officers to hold their fire.
The question is:
Was there another way out of this?
Here's what the captain says:
Bratton cited police policy that allows an officer "to protect himself or others from a threat of death or serious bodily injury."
So who did the police put first? The child or the police officers?
Now, that may be a hyperbolic question. Was the daughter dead before the police killed the man? Did the father kill the daughter?
At any rate, a two-year child is dead as a result of a hostage situation, and many questions remain unanswered.
I do not want to get mad at the police, but I do want to know that all policies and procedures where followed.
My heart breaks for everyone involved.
